Clip on, Half-cell Solution Temperature Monitor
This is an accessory device that clips onto any (RE-5 ) or (RE-5C ) reference electrode. The copper sulfate solution temperature inside the clip-on monitor is the same as the solution temperature inside the half-cell itself (i.e., inside the reference electrode), since the clip-on accessory and the reference electrode will experience the same environment. Corrosion technicians need to know the specific temperature of the copper sulfate solution inside a reference electrode for temperature compensation purposes (a structure-to-soil reading is a function of the reference electrode’s solution temperature and correction is required to compensate for temperature variations).
An advantage of our clip-on device is that it monitors (through simulation) the temperature of the copper sulfate solution inside a reference electrode, as opposed to a temperature gauge which monitors the ambient (air) temperature. For example, if a reference electrode is inside an air conditioned truck at 20°C and the technician jumps out of the trunk to take a reading with the reference electrode and the ambient temperature is 30°C, it doesn’t make sense for the technician to note the 30°C ambient temperature value, for his reading correction determination, since the solution temperature inside the electrode will still be close to 20°C (the truck ambient temperature). It makes more sense to note the temperature of the reference electrode’s solution (at the reading location outside of the truck) which is indicated on our clip-on accessory device.
Reference electrode not included.
